England's plans for the autumn internationals have suffered a blow after Wasps duo Elliot Daly and Matt Mullan were forced to withdraw from this week’s training camp in Portugal due to injury.
Utility back Daly was replaced at half-time of Wasps’ 38-33 Premiership victory at Northampton on Saturday with a knee problem, while prop Mullan suffered an elbow injury in the second period.
Both players will undergo scans in the coming days to determine the extent of the injuries, although England head coach Eddie Jones has opted against calling up any additional players for the training camp at this stage.
“It would be a real shame if either of them misses the autumn internationals because I think they have worked really hard, obviously Matt to get back in [the squad] and Elliot to establish himself as a regular,” said Wasps boss Dai Young.
There was better for Jones and England after Northampton fly-half Piers Francis, who sustained an ankle injury in the clash, has been deemed fit enough to travel to Portugal. England play Argentina in their opening autumn clash on 11 November.
