Jack Butland – 7
Brilliant reflex save to prevent a Michael Keane own goal and generally solid audition for Joe Hart’s No1 jersey.
Kieran Trippier – 6
Got forward well and produced some dangerous crosses in place of his former Spurs colleague Kyle Walker.
Michael Keane – 6
Indebted to Jack Butland for preventing his near own goal but an otherwise assured performance.
John Stones – 7
Defended well and tried to take initiative with passing out of defence. One moment of over-elaboration gave Lithuania a chance.
Harry Maguire – 5
Looked uncomfortable at times on his debut. An early slip let the hosts in and some carelessness in possession.
Aaron Cresswell – 6
Showcased his excellent deliveries in open play and from dead balls. Good second-half header forced a save.
Jordan Henderson – 6
More dynamic than against Slovenia but his attempted long passes repeatedly went astray on unforgiving artificial pitch.
Harry Winks – 7
Brought quick feet and much-needed passing range on promising debut. Set up Rashford for first-half chance and had left-footed shot saved.
Marcus Rashford – 7
Forced a good save in the first half and scared Lithuania every time he ran at them. Faded after half-time.
Dele Alli – 6
Won the penalty and sniffed around for further openings throughout the match without making any impact.
Harry Kane – 7
Buried the match-winning penalty decisively but England’s captain managed little else on an evening when he was starved of supply.
Daniel Sturridge (Rashford, 72) 5: brought some welcome unpredictability to the attack but with no tangible result; Jesse Lingard (Alli, 81): too short an appearance to make an impact.
