Chief whip Gavin Williamson has been likened to House of Cards' protagonist after giving his speech to the Conservative party conference today.

Attendees took to Twitter to draw comparisons with HoC's Francis Urquhart (or Underwood, depending on the version) after Williamson gave a slightly sinister speech, saying "I don't very much believe in the stick, but it's amazing what can be achieved with a sharpened carrot."

His speech, which was the warm-up to Prime Minister Theresa May's keynote, also included references to his pet tarantula as well as a slightly confused gag about Boris Johnson and Vince Cable.

What will May's speech include? Investors seem pretty certain she will announce a energy price cap, but she's also likely to talk about the importance of party unity and vow to fight on.

Whether she mentions Boris after he went rogue again last night is another matter,
