The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind in London and the South East region.
Westerly winds with gusts potentially reaching higher than 60 mph will hit the capital tonight, and heavy rain is also forecast.
The wind will be strongest between 9pm tonight (Wednesday) and 9am tomorrow morning (Thursday 5 October).
Although the Met Office said this kind of weather is not unusual for the time of year, "it brings the potential for disruption to transport, tree damage and temporary power cuts".
"An area of low pressure crossing northern UK overnight will bring a swathe of strong winds on its southern flank, clearing latest from eastern areas," the chief forecaster said.
The strong winds and heavy rain will also affect large parts of the rest of the UK.
