Delays on trains in and out of London Waterloo station will continue all morning, National Rail has warned, due to track circuit failures.

Some lines are closed due to the failure, meaning some lines are closed and services may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes. Disruption to South Western trains is expected to go on until 12pm.

National Rail said South Western Railway originally received reports of a track circuit failure at London Waterloo which was affecting platforms 7-10 at 7.25am. Although it was then fixed, the fault has now reoccurred and engineers will be accessing the tracks to fix the fault. This means platforms 7-10 will be blocked.

"Due to this incident, delays will occur because of the congestion that has built up outside London Waterloo on the mainlines between Wimbledon and London Waterloo," National Rail said.

"To reduce the delays to trains, some services may have to be altered or revised at short notice. Some services may also be diverted via an alternative route. Residual delays may occur as a result of this incident."

The rail operator advised that customers may use the following routes:

  • Great Western Railway services via any reasonable route
  • Southern Services via any reasonable route
  • Thameslink services via any reasonable route
  • London Underground services via any reasonable route
  • London Overground via any reasonable route
