US PGA champion Justin Thomas clinched the FedEx Cup and $10m bonus after finishing runner-up to fellow countryman Xander Schauffele at the Tour Championship.
A birdie on the 18th gave Schauffele victory at East Lake, although by that stage Thomas had already been declared FedEx Cup champion.
Thomas’ FedEx Cup triumph caps a phenomenal season in which the 24-year-old has won five tournaments, including his maiden Major success last month.
“Probably the Major [gives me most pleasure] but they’re all tremendous achievements and I’m extremely proud of them all,” said Thomas.
“It [the $10m] is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. It’s weird because it didn’t come with winning a golf tournament. It’s hard to fully appreciate it but it’s a tremendous honour.”
England’s Paul Casey was in contention for the FedEx Cup gong but a final round 73 put paid to his chances. Thomas carded a closing 66 to finish a stroke behind Schauffele.
