A London institution has been named University of the Year for Graduate Employment by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018.

London South Bank University (LBSU) has taken the prize, coming in 20th in the ranking for overall graduate prospects, "with average salaries of those going into highly skilled jobs thousands of pounds above the national average", according to the Good University Guide. It also jumped 14 places to move just outside of the top 100 in the overall league table.

In addition, more than one third of undergraduates at LBSU - around 7,000 - are sponsored by employers, and this month it set up a new employment agency to help students find part-time work while they study.

Topping the table among London unis was Imperial College, which came fourth in the national ranking, followed by UCL, which was seventh nationally. The full ranking for the Greater London area is laid out below:

"London South Bank has an outstanding record for graduate employment. It is a shining example of all the best qualities held by the modern university sector. Year after year, the university appears close to the top of our tables for graduate employment and graduate salaries," said Alastair McCall, editor of The Sunday Times Good University Guide.

"It's no accident. Courses are often designed to meet the specific needs of industry and the university enjoys close ties across many business sectors, particularly with the construction industry. That the university achieves so highly while offering a university education to many people who would not be considered elsewhere makes it achievement all the more laudable."
