Neymar has been given permission by Barcelona to join Paris St-Germain (PSG) in a world record €222m (£199m) deal, the Spanish club has confirmed.

The Brazilian footballer told his team-mates today that he wants to leave, and was then given permission by manager Ernesto Valverde to miss training and "sort out his future".

Spanish newspaper El Pais reported that the forward "already has a foot" in PSG.

Neymar has a €22m release clause written into his contract at Barcelona, which said it has no intention of negotiating this with PSG.

Neymar Senior, the player's father and agent, is expected to make the equivalent of £23m commission as part of a renewal premium for the contract Neymar signed with Barcelona last year.

The club's directors have said the premium may be lowered if PSG pays the release clause. "It's not that we do not want to pay. We understand that if the contract is not fulfilled, that money should not be paid in full," Barcelona's directors said.
