British Airways check in systems down at Heathrow and Gatwick causing "chaos" and delays to passengers

British Airways has been hit by technical issues which is causing problems at Heathrow and Gatwick airport.

"We're currently experiencing system issues at the airport and we're trying to resolve this as quickly as possible," the airline told angry passengers on Twitter.

One passenger at Gatwick said it was "a mess" and several described it as "chaos".

Systems for checking in are down, according to passengers at the airports venting thier frustration.

And online check in is unavailable, with an error message appearing that said: "Sorry, due to a system error, we are unable to display your booking. Please contact your local British Airways office or Travel Agent."

BA was hit by a major technical glitch over the May bank holiday weekend which lasted for days. That IT meltdown, caused by power supply issues, is expected to cost the airline millions.
