Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer has made the first permanent signing of his Selhurst Park reign with the capture of versatile defender Jairo Riedewald from former club Ajax.
The Eagles are believed to have paid the Dutch side in the region of £8m for the 20-year-old, who has signed a five-year contract and can operate at centre-back, left-back or as a defensive midfielder.
De Boer, who handed Riedewald his first-team Ajax debut in 2013, has been bidding to strengthen the Palace backline after being priced out of a move for Liverpool defender and former loanee Mamadou Sakho.
“Jairo Riedewald is a player I know well through my time at Ajax and I’m glad that he’s now coming to join us at Crystal Palace,” said De Boer.
“He’ll be an excellent addition to our squad. Jairo is a young player but already has a lot of experience. I know he is looking forward to playing in the Premier League.”
Riedewald added: “It is a great opportunity to be working under Frank de Boer once again having been with him at Ajax.”
Palace have already secured the services of midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on a season-long loan deal from Premier League champions Chelsea.
