April was the month that the hit toy of the year, the fidget spinner, really took off, apparently. Sales rocketed more than 700 per cent on the previous month, according to Amazon, as the modern version of the spinning top went mainstream across the globe.
Meanwhile, the online retail giant says the hottest new trend for hitting the beach this summer is a circular beach towel, according to its summer trends report, with sales rising 37 per cent in May.
It also identified that the summer really kicks off on 4 June: that’s when sales of essential items like sun loungers, barbecues, fans and pools spike.
Other trends noted by Amazon in the annual report which details the shopping habits of the nation, were the continued popularity for health books over thrillers, dominating the charts so far this year and making up five of the top 10.
