Low-cost carrier Norwegian has announced two new routes from London Gatwick to Chicago and Texas in the US, as its boss declared the UK at the "heart of our ambitious expansion plans".
Flights are now on sale to Chicago from £179 and Austin, Texas from £239 one way, according to the airline. The routes will start from March next year and will be served by new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
Norwegian will have three flights a week to Texas and four flights a week to Chicago, starting on 27 and 25 March respectively.
The carrier is marking its third year at the London airport with the announcement of new routes, having started with flights to three US cities. It now serves 13 long-haul destinations from Gatwick, including nine US cities, Singapore and Buenos Aires.
Norwegian chief executive Bjorn Kjos said:
Once again we have put the UK at the heart of our ambitious expansion plans, with affordable fares to another two exciting US destinations.
Many people said low-cost long-haul would never work but three years, 13 routes and 1.5m UK passengers later and Norwegian has shown there is huge demand for more affordable long-haul travel.
Meanwhile, Gatwick boss Stewart Wingate said the addition of flights to Chicago and Austin means that the airport now offers 62 long-haul routes, "more than any other single runway airport in the world - and the fifth largest network of any airport in Europe".
Last month, Norwegian announced its launch of low-cost flights to Argentina, with the carrier's maiden flight there setting off on Valentine's Day next year.
Kjos previously told City A.M. South America was "a hidden jewel" as it was pricey to fly there and he was hoping to help change that.
