80 firefighters tackle huge blaze at new block of flats at Bow Wharf in Bethnal Green

Firefighters from across the capital have tackled a huge fire at a new block of flats in Bethnal Green in East London.

Twelve fire engines and 80 firefighters attended the blaze at the Bow Wharf development which is currently under construction and not occupied.

London Fire Brigade said the third floor and roof of the low-rise four storey block were fully alight with the first and second floors also affected. The fire was brought under control just after 2pm on Sunday.

Witnesses nearby have shared video of the blaze on Twitter.

Smoke can be seen billowing from the building.

Crews from Bethnal Green, Homerton, Shadwell, Shoreditch, Whitechapel, Poplar, Millwall and other fire stations attended the incident. London Fire Brigade has said it does not yet know the cause of the fire and is investigating.
