It's a question many bosses want to know the answer to, but can't really find out in the most subtle way... Just how liked by your employees are you?

So jobs site Glassdoor has taken it upon itself to find out the bosses ranked most favourably among their employees. And it has duly ranked the top 10 highest rated chief executives in the UK for 2017.

In the top spot was Anglian Water's Peter Simpson with a 98 per cent approval rating, followed by Salesforce's Marc Benioff, HomeServe UK's Martin Bennett and then Google's Sundar Pichai.

Employee reviews praised the support from top-down at Anglian Water, while one noted "the development of people is a key success factor".

"For the right people who want key roles within the business, the company is prepared to offer assistance in making this happen," an employee said.

Glassdoor's co-founder Robert Hohman said the rankings "truly reflect employee opinion" about the job the chief executive does.

"We know that CEO approval ratings correlate to overall employee satisfaction and trust in senior leadership, which contributes to long-term employee engagement, ultimately helping an employer’s recruiting and retention efforts," Hohman said.

To compile the ranking, employees provide anonymous feedback by completing a company review about their chief executive's leadership, insight into their job, work environment and employer over the past year.

Last year's winner however, Metro Bank's Craig Donaldson, dropped out the top 10 entirely, though he still makes the top 50 in number 33.

Of the bosses in the top 10 last year, just two made the cut again this time round: Expedia's Dara Khosrowshahi and PageGroup's Steve Ingham.

These are numbers 11-25 of the highest rated chief executives - and here's the full 50.
