The death toll from the Grenfell Tower fire has risen to 30, police said this afternoon.

Metropolitan Police commander Stuart Cundy confirmed 30 fatalities from the blaze, but said "sadly (the) figure may rise".

The tower block in west London was set on fire in the early hours of Wednesday morning, with flames engulfing the building from the second floor to the 27th storey.

Cundy added: "The priority for all of us involved in the ongoing operation at Grenfell Towers is to recover and identify all the victims.

"We will ensure that families are informed as soon as possible when we know beyond doubt that it is their loved one who has been identified"

Prime Minister Theresa May has ordered a full public inquiry into the incident.
