Luxury carmaker McLaren has made a play for the entry level of the supercar market by unveiling what might be its most affordable convertible yet.

At £164,750, the new 2018 570S Spider provides a more affordable product for budding sports car owners.

The car can go from zero to 60 miles an hour in 3.1 seconds, according to McLaren. The top speed is 204mph with the roof in place and 196mph for open-air cruising.

It also has all the bells and whistles on the inside, with six-way-adjustable electric memory seats in Nappa leather. Customers can even change the seats to be eight-way adjustable and add Alcantara trim for an extra cost.

Motorheads are getting excited about the new model because, despite the addition of a mechanism to fold the roof away, the car only weighs 46kg more than the 570S Coupe.

The new release comes a few days after McLaren CEO MIke Flewitt indicated that the company has its sights set on a stock market float in the next five years. McLaren aims to produce 4,500 cars annually by the end of next year.
