The Restaurant Group (TRG) today announced its chief financial officer Barry Nightingale will step down from the board with immediate effect.

Nightingale joined the Frankie & Benny's and Chiquito owner last June, replacing Stephen Critoph who left in April last year, making this the second finance chief to leave the restaurant firm in 12 months.

"On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Barry for the valuable contribution that he has made over the past year, as we began the company's turnaround process, which continues to progress well," said TRG chair Debbie Hewitt.

"We wish him all the best for the future."

Earlier this year, TRG revealed its plans for a turnaround after reporting a 3.9 per cent drop in sales in 2016.

At the time, Hewitt said last year was challenging with a "consistently disappointing trading performance exposing fundamental issues across our three main leisure brands".
