A fire next to rail tracks near London last night is causing delays on train services this morning.
Thameslink and East Midlands Trains will be disrupted during morning rush hour, National Rail warned.
The rail operator said emergency services were alerted to a building on fire in close proximity to the railway at Hendon yesterday evening. As gas canisters were involved, safety measures were in place and lines were blocked.
The fire brigade have dealt with the incident and lines through the area have reopened, however due to the length of time lines were blocked, trains and train crew are displaced. Therefore, some disruption is expected this morning.
This is the third day this week that a fire has caused delays on rail tracks - on Tuesday and Wednesday, Chiltern Railways services were disrupted for the same reason.
The following East Midlands Trains services will be amended due to trains being out of place:
- 05:32 Nottingham to London St Pancras International will be cancelled
- 05:25 Leeds to London St Pancras International will start from Sheffield
- 06:00 Sheffield to London St Pancras International will be cancelled
- 06:34 Leeds to London St Pancras International will start from Sheffield
East Midlands Trains services are expected to be disrupted until 09:00.
East Midlands Trains customers with unused tickets dated Wednesday 12 April, may use their tickets today, Thursday 13 April.
Thameslink services are expected to be affected until approximately 11:00. As a result of the lines being closed for a significant period, Thameslink trains are not all in the correct position for the service this morning. This will mean some cancellations to the train service today.
