Monday evening rush hour chaos expected at London Waterloo with delays and cancellations on South West Trains services

Services in and out of Waterloo station have been delayed all day, and disruption to South West Trains services is expected to carry on until 11 o'clock tonight.

National Rail said a track defect over a set of points meant platforms 1-4 were blocked, meaning the number of services running to and from the station will be reduced.

Engineers are currently working to rectify the issue, the rail operator said, resulting in platforms 5-7 being additionally blocked to allow safe working.

Trains across the South West Trains network may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.

A good service should be operating by approximately 11pm. Disruption was previously anticipated to last until 3pm, but this estimate was modified due to the extent of engineering work required and subsequent time required to recover the service.

Which services are affected?

The following routes will be cancelled:

  • London Waterloo to Dorking
  • London Waterloo to Hampton Court
  • London Waterloo to Chessington South

The following routes will be amended:

  • London Waterloo to Weymouth departing at 05 minutes past each hour will call additionally at Woking.
  • London Waterloo to Weymouth departing at 35 minutes past each hour will call additionally at Clapham Junction and Basingstoke
  • Weymouth to London Waterloo departing at 03 minutes past each hour will call additionally at Basingstoke and Clapham Junction.
  • Weymouth to London Waterloo departing at 20 minutes past each hour will call additionally at Woking.

Train services that are running may have to be altered or revised at short notice. Some services may also be diverted via an alternative route.
