William Hill has named Ruth Prior its chief financial officer to replace Philip Bowcock, who moved to the role of chief executive for the bookie earlier this month.

Prior comes to the company from payment processing firm Worldpay, where she has worked since 2013 as chief operating officer and deputy chief financial officer.

Bowcock said Prior's experience in digital operations, online payments and finance "is all highly relevant to our strategic priorities to deliver an even better customer experience and faster growth."

Prior said:

I am excited to be joining William Hill at a time when there are clear opportunities both to grow the business inside the UK and to expand our position on the international stage. I’m looking forward to working with the team to deliver the digital expertise, operational efficiencies and technology platform that will underpin the group’s further growth.

The two have their work cut out to turn around the business after a tough year where online growth flatlined and unfavourable football and horseracing results helped push profits down 10 per cent.

While rivals are consolidating with mergers and acquisitions, William Hill has chosen to go it alone after rejecting two offers last year.
