Up to 200 guests and staff were evacuated from a hotel on Piccadilly this morning due to a fire in the basement.
London Fire Brigade said a "small rubbish fire occurred in a light well adjacent to the hotel's basement" was to blame for the incident.
Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to reports of a smoke issuing from the basement at Le Meridien hotel on Piccadilly.
The brigade was called at 11:16am and fire crews from Soho, Chelsea, Euston and Lambeth fire stations attended the scene.
Approximately 150 hotel guests and 50 members of staff were evacuated.
Piccadilly is down to one lane of traffic as firefighters investigate.
