England took another step towards booking their place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia by beating Lithuania 2-0. Here is how the Three Lions rated, man by man.

Joe Hart 6

Made only save he had to but mistimed charge out almost gifted visitors a goal and kicking mixed again

Kyle Walker 7

Tireless running caused persistent threat down right flank. Clever pass into Lallana preceded Vardy’s goal

Michael Keane 8

Superb display on only his second appearance. Strong in the tackle, composed on ball and some excellent long passing

John Stones 7

Assured as the senior centre-back, proactive about winning the ball back upfield and spared Hart’s blushes after gaffe

Ryan Bertrand 7

Growing in confidence with each cap. Got in behind Lithuania several times and set up Sterling for one great chance

Eric Dier 6

Steady as ever but a little ponderous in distribution against opponents who left few gaps. Off target with one headed chance

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 6

Unconvincing in deeper role. Improved after a passive first half and drew decent save with a shot from distance

Adam Lallana 8

Assist for Vardy was one of several deft touches around the box from England’s most threatening player

Dele Alli 7

Took up good positions and understanding with Lallana is flourishing but nothing fell for him this time

Raheem Sterling 7

Willingness to take on defenders led to Defoe’s goal. Making a habit of failing to convert open goals

Jermain Defoe 7

Hit target with first shot and found the net with his second. Lacked pace to stretch visitors and faded after half-time

Jamie Vardy (Jermain Defoe 60): Clinical finish and might have had another.

Marcus Rashford (Raheem Sterling 60): Terrified Lithuania but final ball missing.
