The exploits of magicians The Four Horsemen was a surprise success at the box office three years ago. It's no surprise, then, that the gang should be quickly re-assembled for a sequel, where the Horsemen (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco and Lizzy Caplan) are forced into a shady heist by a vengeful tech prodigy (Daniel Radcliffe).
But a plot packed with double-crosses and illusions that are more frustrating than intriguing hints this was a sequel nobody expected to be making. Underneath the bangs and flashes lies an empty revenge caper, with the heaving cast struggling to make sense of it all amid the silly set pieces. Incredibly a third film is already on the way, but if they want the crowd to be hungry for more, they will need to add some depth to the showmanship.
