What did you put on your wishlist this year? Thanks to the wonders of technology, we may be able to guess.

Santa may be making his list and checking it twice, but as for the rest of us, we seem to be making our lists and then tweeting them twice.

As social media analytics firm Brandwatch has discovered, it’s no longer particularly difficult to find out what the most desirable gifts and brands are this Christmas.

The firm analysed close to 200,000 tweets containing the words “All I want for Christmas is” and found that all most of us are really hoping for is a new phone.

Books, make up and shoes are some of the biggest product categories we shop for, and as Brandwatch points out in a blog post, your loved ones’ social media posts may be a good source of inspiration if you’re stumped for what to get them:

If you think someone’s hard to buy for it’s probably worth checking their Twitter feed.

When it comes to what brands we’re clamouring for, Apple made up the biggest chunk of the pie by far.

Products from Nike, Victoria’s Secret and MAC were also popular Christmas gift requests from the Twitter crowd.
