If it's been a long week at work, and you don't necessarily fancy going out with your mates, you're not alone. Tonight is the most popular Friday night of the year for staying in.

A new survey by Higgidy has revealed just under a third of Britons will unwind at home tonight, as the clocks go back and cold weather arrives.

According to the poll of 2,000 people, 14.5 per cent of Britons want to spend their Friday evening watching missed television programmes.

And if you're feeling youthful pressure to go out, don't fret: it's the younger generation who are most in need of a quiet evening.

Some 73 per cent of 18-24 year olds said they would rather stay in at the end of the week rather than head out.

The ideal weekend starts with getting home at 6pm (so hope your train isn't delayed), before getting into pyjamas, the survey found.
