Two people confirmed dead in plane crash near Chigwell, Essex
A small plane burst into flames after crashing in a field near Chigwell in Essex this morning, killing two people
According to Essex County Fire & Rescue Service, the light aircraft came down just before 10.20am this morning, and was “100 per cent alight” when crews arrived. It is believed that the aircraft was an eight-seater Beechcraft King Air 200.
The incident took place just on the side of Millers Lane in the village of Abridge, which is close to the town of Chigwell. Four crews attended the scene and used reel jets to extinguish the fire.
Essex Police said in a statement:
We now believe there to have been two people on board the light aircraft which crashed in the field off Gravel Lane in Chigwell. Sadly they both died.
The scene has been cordoned off, and there are various road closures in the local area affecting Abridge Road at the junction with Gravel Lane, Millers Lane, Lambourne Road and Pudding Lane.
