Police and crews from London Fire Brigade attended the incident. A LFB spokesman told City A.M. that two fire engines from Soho had been dispatched.
But after carrying out a check of the station, the team concluded it was a false alarm.
However the brief incident caused something of a commuter kerfuffle as passengers spilled out onto the busy junction around the Tube entrance.
