Tower Bridge has been reopened by police after a suspicious package was found earlier this afternoon.

The Metropolitan Police said cordons would be taken down "shortly".

Earlier, a spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police had confirmed officers were dealing with a suspect package on the bridge, while the City Police tweeted:

Local shops, including a Sainsbury's, were evacuated, as well as local building sites and office workers.

City workers reported helicopters - including a chinook - as the roads were closed to police to all pedestrians and traffic.

Twitter users took pictures of the road closure outside the Tower of London
