In the letter, addressed to Prime Minister David Cameron, BCC director general John Longworth said British businesses want the new government to generate more growth by increasing exports, investing in education and delivering on infrastructure plans.
The BCC also called for Cameron to enact “fundamental reform” of the UK’s relationship with the EU.
“Above all, Prime Minister, be ambitious,” Longworth wrote. “Fight the Whitehall culture of incrementalism, risk-aversion and inertia that stops much-needed change.”
Meanwhile, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) said today the new government must “get into its stride quickly”, with CBI deputy director-general Katja Hall saying the Prime Minister should “prioritise building on the progress made to get the deficit down, finding more innovative ways to deliver public services and backing the final decision from the Airports Commission so we get diggers in the ground by 2020”.
