Tesco opens second hot food store format in Villiers Street, Embankment
Tesco may be on course to shut down 43 underperforming stores as new management tries to get the business back on track, but it's not standing still when it comes to opening its new food format stores.
The troubled supermarket opened its second store – which serves hot food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as tea and coffee, alcohol and soft drinks – in London's Villier Street, between Embankment and Charing Cross station.
The new store boasts more than 50 types of sandwich, sushi and snacks as well as ready meals and hot food on-the-go.
While its first store, just around the corner from the Walkie Talkie, was a tie-up with emerging eaterie Fred's, this second branch has partnered with Burrito Kitchen. Customers will be able to choose from tacos, salads and of course burritos with a range of meat and veggie options.
It is open from 6:30am until midnight Monday to Friday and 8am to midnight at weekends.
Tesco told City A.M it had received “positive feedback” from its Philpot Lane debut.
“Both stores, located in the heart of London, are a great example of how we are providing the products and services that meet the shopping needs of our customers,” the spokeswoman said. “These stores offer a wide range of items ideal for tourists and busy commuters on the move and feature the latest technology to help make the shopping trip quick and easy.”
The supermarket said the store had been “designed with the time-conscious office worker and commuter in mind”.
