William Samuels, interior designer and co-founder of property development company Wilben is putting his two-bedroom Kensington bachelor pad on the market.
Located on the western side of a picturesque garden square with a church in the middle, the apartment was being rented by students when Will spotted its potential, stripped the place bare and re-designed it from top-to-bottom.
It only took around three months, which may have a lot to do with the fact he’s one half of a prime central London development company that has exchanged over £50m worth of sales to date. The other half is his twin brother, Benjamin, whose talent lies in the property acquisition and project management side of the business.
“I could never buy somewhere that just needed a lick of paint,” Will says, “I need something I can work with.” Indeed, his apartment on Redcliffe Square is now a seamless fusion of masculine comfort and modern popular culture. Neutral browns, greys and dark-stained oak wood sit alongside large Terry O’Neill prints hanging from fishing wire. Top of the range ceiling speakers fitted out with the latest smart technology look down on the framed vintage film posters that line the walls.
At just over 1,000sqft, every inch of the floorspace had to be meticulously planned to make the most of the space. As a big fan of open plan design, Will opened up the bay-fronted living space to create a triple reception area that accommodates a kitchen, living room and dining area. A new fireplace and a few pieces of original artwork later, and he says it’s his favourite room in the apartment “because it’s such an incredible entertaining space.” He’s even created a wicker-clad outdoors patio space off of the master bedroom. “If you look at other properties around this area, this is probably the best there is in terms of specification now. I wanted to bring a Knightsbridge interior and finish to Chelsea.”
After only six months, Will is itching to find a new project and he’s tempted to try his hand at lofty penthouse living. But first he has to part with the student apartment he’s made an elegant home. “I have loved living at Redcliffe Square,” he says, “it’s a fantastic bachelor pad in a prime location. I’ve designed and chosen every detail of this place so it very much reflects my personal style and I hope it’s enjoyed thoroughly by its new owner.”
