We're not sure if it’s the John Lewis effect or just a coincidence, but it seems one’s Christmas party isn’t complete these days without a troop of live penguins. This week, it was Devonshire Square, which rolled out the ice carpet for the Antarctic’s best export – hosting a group of the animals in a bid to raise awareness for their conservation.
Experienced penguin handlers were on, er, hand to answer any questions about the cute critters and WWF’s viral video campaign #penguindancebattle took hold, as members of the Devonshire Square events team led passers by in a penguin dance.
We imagine the penguins and passers by were equally as bemused. The square’s Christmas market continues until Saturday, with a smorgasbord of gifts, food and drink, and next Wednesday you’ll be able to go down and see some ice sculptures being created.
And just in case you haven't reached peak Monty yet, here's John Lewis's latest Christmas advert... again:
